The island of Sal being the flattest of the whole archipelago, has Monte Grande as the highest point, with a height of 406m. The island has a surface of 216m2 and from the north to south the maximum length is 30km and 12km wide in the direction of east to west. It is so called due to the salt that was produced in the lagoon in a crater of a volcano, which became the major cause of development of the island, and its main export for many decades.

The construction of the international airport in the 20th century led to the growth of the economy of the island, and therefore, to an increase in the population as well as a significant growth of tourism. The number of inhabitants has doubled in the last decade.
Santa Maria is the main tourist destination at the moment and with the arrival of direct flights by Astreus in November, it is set to increase even more. Two more flights are starting in February with Astreus and A further two with Thompsons.
The island is an investors dream with two Ernie Els golf courses and four others approved making this an elite holiday destination. The famous Nikki beach will be arriving on the island soon!!
Frequently known as the Porto Grande island , Sao Vincente has 227km2 surface,and it is the second island in terms of number of inhabitants . The furthest distance is around 24km from east to west and 16km from the north to the south.

The people of the island love music and the most important cultural event is the carnival in February. with parades and groups in masquerade the streets become alight with the colourful displays and the sound of drums.
Boavista has a surface of 620km2 and its it is the 3rd largest island of the archipelago Similar to the island of Sal,it is flat. The peak of Estancia is the highest point of the island measuring about 390mt.

It is covered with white sand dunes. Oases of date palms are found here and there, and are the typical vegetation of the island. Boavista has 55km of white sand beaches and crystal clear water.
